'Buhari Should Be Careful' - Group Warns

A rights group, Intersociety for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law, has advised the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to be careful with his public utterances.
The group stated that given the multi-cultural and political nature of Nigeria, Buhari has to be mindful of what he says in public.
According to the group, the president-elect seems unmindful of the heterogeneous nature of the country, Daily Independent reports.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by its chairman of the Board of Directors, Emeka Umeagbalasi, along with Uzochukwu Oguejiofor-Nwonu, the head of the Campaign and Publicity Department, Chiugo Onwuatuegwu, the head of the Democracy and Good Governance Programme and Obianuju Igboeli, the head of the Civil Liberties & Rule of Law Programme.
The statement said: “As the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari ought to be a statesman and father of all to be able to govern smoothly, happily and prosperously a country like Nigeria, which has over 250 ethnic groups and multi-religions to its credit, the President-elect also ought to be fair and accommodating in his referenced public comments.”
The group further advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) to arrange a training programme for the president-elect.
Buhari emerged winner of the March 28 presidential elections, defeating the incumbent president, Goodluck Jonathan. Jonathan will be handing over power to him on May 29.
Following his victory, the president-elect has been getting a lot of advice and suggestions on what to do when he gets into power.
The former Senate chief whip, Senator Roland Owie, advised him to avoid the former president, Olusegun Obasanjo like the  plague if he wanted to succeed as Nigeria’s leader.
Meanwhile, Obasanjo, in a recent interview had advised Buhari to realize that Nigerians are expecting a lot from him when he finally takes over power on May 29.
